The PEI Mutual Education Trust was founded in 1985, our centennial anniversary with a donation of $100,000 was given to the Trust by PEI Mutual. Over the next 25 years, the Trust received additional donations totalling $82,000. In 2010, PEI Mutual celebrated 125 years of being in business. To commemorate this major milestone, our Board of Directors approved a special donation of $125,000 to the PEI Mutual Education Trust Fund. This allowed us to significantly increase the amount given to each recipient.
Each and every year, we're committed to making a meaningful impact by offering $1,500 scholarships to 20 deserving Grade 12 students across the Island.
The PEI Mutual Education Trust has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to deserving Island students.
The annual interest from the Trust is paid out in the form of twenty (20) scholarships to qualifying Island Grade 12 graduating students. Scholarships are allotted to each qualifying high school based on the number of graduates from the schools in the preceding year. Since 1985, the PEI Mutual Education Trust has awarded over 800 Scholarships totaling more than $500,000.
Our scholarship program is administered by each individual school - to get an update on the process, please reach out to your local high school. In mid-April of each year, we send out application forms to each of the Island high schools, where a selection committee chooses the winning candidate(s). The two main criteria used in selecting winning candidates are financial need and academic performance.
