Position Overview: Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is a senior member of our accounting team responsible for closely monitoring the Company's financial health. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting on appropriate financial and operating data. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining internal control policies and procedures and monitoring day-to-day accounting processes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions
  • Monitor and evaluate internal controls on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure regulatory compliance as required
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and reports
  • Ensure data integrity within all financial reporting throughout the organization
  • Coordinate and oversee all month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Engage with external auditors to coordinate year end cut-off procedures
  • Provide HR support and other administrative duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, or related discipline
  • A professional Accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum 5 year's experience in a senior accounting role
  • Proficiency working with agile accounting and financial database systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A high standard of ethical and professional behavior
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Previous experience in supervising direct-report staff

PEI Mutual Insurance Company Announces the Retirement of General Manager/CEO Blair Campbell

Summerside, PE - The Board of Directors of PEI Mutual Insurance Company announced the retirement of General Manager/CEO Blair Campbell effective Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Blair has been a loyal, dedicated employee of PEI Mutual Insurance Company for over 30 years. Before he was appointed as General Manager/CEO on May 1, 2017, Blair served as the Claims Manager for 27 years.

PEI Mutual Insurance Company would like to thank Blair for his years of dedicated service and wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.

Accounting Technician Position

PEI Mutual Insurance Company has an opening for an Accounting Technician at our Head Office location in Summerside, PEI. We ask you to consider applying to join our team. Responsibilities: As our Accounting Technician you will provide support to the CFO, the Controller and the Accounting/Underwriting technician department. Job tasks include:

  • Maintain accounts receivable and process invoices for payment
  • Record business transactions, process adjustments and reconcile accounts
  • Ensure all mid-period and month-end financial duties are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Calculate and submit weekly payroll
  • Complete tax remittance forms such as payroll source deductions and T4's
  • Assist CFO & Controller with year-end working papers and spreadsheets
  • Other general accounting functions specific to the insurance industry, as required
Qualifications:
  • An Accounting diploma or equivalent accounting work experience
  • An understanding of accounting principles
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience with Excel spreadsheets
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work well independently and on a team
  • Detail-oriented and proficient in managing deadlines and workflow
  • A high degree of proficiency with software applications and information technology

Responsibilities: As a licensed insurance Office Service Agent the successful candidates will work collaboratively as a support to our Field Agents and Head Office Staff under the guidance of the Underwriting Manager:

  • Providing insurance coverage advice to member policyholders
  • Arranging changes to insurance policies
  • Arranging policy communication
  • Supporting Agency processes and policy documents
