NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY

The Annual Meeting of the Members of the Prince Edward Island Mutual Insurance Company for the 2022 year will be held at The Oval, above Red Shores at Summerside Raceway, 55 Greenwood Drive, Summerside, PEI on the 11th day of April, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to receive the financial statements and the auditor's report for 2022; to elect directors; to appoint auditors; and to transact business of the 2022 Annual Meeting.

Controller Position

Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Finance & Administration, the Controller is a senior member of our accounting team responsible for closely monitoring the Company's financial health. A strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you'll be responsible for providing comprehensive updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting on appropriate financial and operating data. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining internal control policies and procedures and monitoring day-to-day accounting processes.

What you'll do:
  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions
  • Monitor and evaluate internal controls on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure regulatory compliance as required
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and reports
  • Ensure data integrity within all financial reporting throughout the organization
  • Coordinate and oversee all month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Engage with external auditors to coordinate year end cut-off procedures
  • Oversee and execute accounting activities including AP, AR, journal entries and payroll
  • Hire, onboard, supervise, train, coach, support, and develop both Accounting and Administration Team
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate processes, policies and procedures
  • Provide HR support and other administrative duties as required
About you:
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, or related discipline
  • A professional Accounting designation (CPA), would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 year's experience in a senior accounting role
  • Proficiency working with agile accounting and financial database systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A high standard of ethical and professional behavior
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Previous experience in supervising direct-report staff

What you'll do:
As our Claims Coordinator, you will provide substantial support to the Claims Manager and Claims Examiner. Job tasks include:
  • Facilitate seamless day-to-day operations and smooth coordination of claims services
  • Make suggestions and decisions concerning the efficient coordination of resources to ensure high level of member service
  • Logistics and coordination of various meetings and Claims Team training
  • Conduct research and create reports based on the needs of the Claims Department
  • Update and maintain the company's Hurricane & Natural Disaster Preparedness Plan
  • Provide support to Claims Representatives, Adjusters, and Equipment Appraiser in the field with new technology and reporting processes
  • Respond to internal and external inquires and maintain positive communication
  • Receive, prepare, and direct correspondence, letters, documents, and emails
  • Observe, review, and analyze processes to improve procedures and workflows for optimal productivity
  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders to foster excellent working relationships and cohesion across the organization
  • Keep current on industry trends, and best practices
  • Various other special projects and duties including continuous improvement initiatives, as assigned

The successful candidate will primarily serve our policyholders in the Western portion of PEI, identified in the map below.

  • Adjust both property damage and legal liability claims
  • Recommend and maintain proper reserves
  • Consult and coordinate with experts such as lawyers, engineers, architects, and contractors
